Conceived by Creative Director Craig Johnson and executed by After-Effects Editor Jimi Simpson, the finished animation will now become the opening ident for all their future Big Debates vodcasts. BD has produced a DVD for Dunlop UK via Ad agency, p’ZAZ. The content is a compilation of seven short films post produced by BD throughout the past year for Dunlop Europe. Dunlop broke new ground last year, producing the Sportmax GP Racer D211 tyre, which is based on the hugely successful technology created for motorcycle racing.
It’s all about the marketing. BDTV are producing a video showreel for UBM’s United States arm which showcases their recent work utilising Adobe After Effects to bring together such media as Online, Events, Print and custom publishing in a harmonious way. Senior editor Jim Simpson’s talents at work in this case.

Made in 2008 and directed by Gus Van Sant, the movie features stellar performances from Sean Penn (who won the best actor Oscar), Josh Brolin and James Franco. The film's second Oscar went to Dustin Lance Black for best screenplay. The exclusive introduction by ALEX ZANE was filmed in San Francisco at locations featured heavily in the film (including the Castro Theatre and City Hall). The Football Association are keen to heighten the profile of the FA Cup, so arranged for the World Heavyweight Champion himself, David Haye, appeared at the club he supports, Millwall FC...together with FA Cup itself. Senior editor Jim Simpson is deep into editing the 2010 season race film for Yamaha Factory Racing, Japan – via Amsterdam agency p’ZAZ. This year, Jim will be completing all graphics in-house on After Effects. The film will feature on Yamaha’s global racing website
The Warren Miller franchise continues after 56 years – the last 19 films being distributed by BD – and this year’s film ‘Wintervention’ has attracted Londoners in record numbers. A highlight of the Gala evening was the appearance of Glen Plake who entertained the crowd with his wit – and signed a few posters for the fans.
24 NOVEMBER 2010 - TOGETHER ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE
UBM commissioned Black Diamond to produce a brand-new two minute showreel for UBM Client Solutions. Created by Craig Johnson (who worked on the message and typography) and Jimi Simpson (who devised the sumptuous graphics and edited the piece) the video features an uplifting re-imagining of M83's 'Teen Angst' by oft-used music collaborator David Harper. Deliberately moving away from the more obvious approach to showreels, 'Together anything is Possible' focuses on mood rather than the hard sell. The finished piece will be available for viewing shortly.

Creative Director Craig Johnson's design solutions for the TW STEEL Watches' launch of their 'California' Mens & Ladies watches have been so successful that the visual approach has now been adopted by the brand for their dedicated TW Steel California microsite (which goes live shortly). In an unprecedented move in the current market place, Brendan Kelly has negotiated a deal with Sue Ashworth, Commercial Manager at Sky Sports, for Black Diamond to continue producing its highly valued extreme sports series for the UK broadcaster until December 2014. As with series produced for Sky in previous years, Black Diamond also retains world distribution rights and also has a continuing commitment from its long term sponsorship partner Nissan, to remain attached to the franchise.

Black Diamond’s Coca-Cola Play-Offs commercials were up for Best Sponsorship of an Event, but were pipped at the post by Adidas (for their London Marathon campaign) so congratulations to them. Brendan Kelly, Head of Television has secured the global rights to three titles produced by Michael Attwell’s MAPTV company and will be presenting them to buyers in Cannes next week at MipTV. The titles are “9/11 : A Tale of Two Towers” and with the tenth anniversary of the 2001 terrorist atrocity next year, this should prove to be a popular show. Also there are “Myra : The Making of a Monster” and the definitive story of Princess Diana in “The Diana Years” . The tiles are being offered to the market as a ‘contemporary history’ strand.

Black Diamond filmed their first commission for UBM (United Business Media Limited). The inaugural joint Property Week and Building Debate on the Carbon Reduction Commitment: “Impossible Mission?” took place at 15 Hatfield on 25 March 2010. The event, supported by the Carbon Trust, featured an illuminating Q&A session with the primary speakers. Post-production begins immediately on multi-format versions of the hour-long piece.

Black Diamond are delighted to announce that the Coca-Cola Football League Play-Offs have been nominated for the Best Sponsorship of a Sport Event/Competition in the 2010 Sports Industry Awards, to be held in London in May. Creative Director Craig Johnson and Senior Editor Jimi Simpson were responsible for the three specially-commissioned commercials that provided the lynchpin for the whole campaign (they can be viewed in the commercials section). Black Diamond has once again been invited to conceive and produce three adverts to mark the end of this current season, the last season of Coca Cola's sponsorship deal for the Championship, League 1 and League 2. The Black Diamond creative team are in initial discussions on ideas and storyboards for this year's campaign, in the wake of the nomination for this year's Sports Industry Awards.
